Hi,
I am applying for Federal Skilled worker programme where my wife will be applying as dependent. Her name before marriage was ABC-PQR which was state in all her educational documents but after marriage we got her name changed to ABC-XYZ where XYZ is my family name. This ABC-XYZ is in all documents starting from Marriage certificate, Passport and Visa etc.
I dont have any name change certificate or affidavit, would it be definitely required for Canadian immegration or just educational marsheets and current documents will work. Appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks
Amit
This is common for all
Write the name of your spouse as per passport. In her passport, her father name will be available to verify other docs
Education certificates and other docs bearing original name will not have any wrong impact
You will be submitting marriage certificate with application

In the application form IMM 0008- it would specifically ask for other names/alias. You should write your wife's name (before marriage in that).
Also mention this (and any other clarifications you would like to make) in a cover letter.
That other names is not related to your original name (before marriage)
Write your name as per passport and there are other fields also where it will ask father name and mother name and its DOB and date of death

Hi Coolguy,
Perhaps you misunderstood my clarification to him. He obviously has to fill the current details in the application form. In Form IMM 0008 there is a field which specifically asks for other names used (Alias, Maiden name, Nick names etc)- in which he has to fill his wife's maiden name.
I am pasting the instruction guide details below
>>>>
Nickname/Alias
Check the box to indicate if you have ever used any other name. This could be your birth name, maiden name, married name, nickname, etc. If “Yes”, provide your nickname/alias by indicating it in the family name and given name(s) fields.

I hope the original poster understood what i had written.
yes tilakk......got your point

That was exactly what I had written- what's so confusing about it?
Many Thanks guys for your valuable suggestions.... Coolyguy, Tilak & Rathod sahab.
I will update the name in IMM 0008 form.

Section 11 of checklist mentions to provide "Legal Documents showing name changes". What legal documents will be sufficient? My wife's name was ABC
LMN XYZ before marriage (name used in her 10th marksheet) & now its only ABC XYZ (mentioned in Marriage Certificate & Passport). LMN is her father's name & I got that removed after marriage for ease.
Will there be a need for affidavit? & if so, what will be the format?
Hi Everyone,
It is an urgent question. I have received my ITA however, there is a name change for my wife and she's got a new passport with her new name, however, my passport contains her old name.
Will I also have to change her name on my passport or is it ok as far as we have the marriage certificates and her name change documents?
Please help

on the application you have to add the wife's name as per her passport (i think it's well specified) last name changes after marriage are common, you can mention that in LOE if you want.

Thanks for ur reply, however it is not just the last name she has completely got a new first name for herself and also added my last name as hers, so in this case can I just specify this in the LOE or shall I apply for her name change on my passport too??

oh then she needs to submit the name change paperwork, i doubt her name on your passport matters as it's not something common (it's actually the first time i hear of the spouse's name being on the passport)
