Spouse immigration - change of status

Hi
I am aware of a US national who has got a Work Permit on the basis of being a spouse of a Canadian citizen. The entry into Ontario Canada was in early January 2017 and so far the health card and PR is pending. The spouse now finds that she does not want to continue living with the husband and intends to seek a separation and possibly divorce.

1. Would it be legal to continue staying in Canada.
2. Does she need to withdraw her application for immigration under the spouse category. If yes how does she go about it.

1. Yes - until the expiry of the work permit.
2. Yes - she needs to withdraw the application if they have separated. Contact the visa office processing the application and request the application be canceled.
