Has anybody with a refugee claim appied for an spousal work permit?

My refugee claim has been postponed for more than a year now, and after applying for an open work permit based on my common law partner's student permit, it got approved, but then it came with the same "does not confer temporary resident status" even though it also came with a two year validity, the same as my partner's student visa. Did I apply wrong or you really can't get your status back until the hearing is done?

Many thanks in advance!

Also, I plan on going to school for a term of less than six months. I know that I need a study permit for that because I'm an asylum claimant, but the question is, will I then have status for those short months until my school is done, or would I still have to leave the country if my hearing comes negative in the middle of everything?

1. As a refugee claimant, the work permit allows you to work, but doesn't give you any status in Canada. As you didn't have valid status when you applied for the work permit.

Thanks for the reply PMM. But as I stated, this was not a refugee claimant work permit, I've sent along my spouse's student visa, our common law declaration and even was asked to pay the fees (which for the refugee permit you don't pay). My refugee permit is still valid for a year and they still issued me this new one for two more years (which again, is the duration of my spouse's visa), but put that remark about "does not confer status". It really seems unusual.

Again... Has anybody here applied for a study / work permit while waiting for the refugee hearing? Did it come with the remark: "does not confer status at the bottom?
