Hello everyone,

I'm new here. I've been looking through the topics to see if anyone has answered this already. However, I have a very specific question that I haven't seen answered yet.

Some background:

I'm a young female (in my early 20's) who recently married a Jamaican man (he's a few months older than I am). I am currently living in Jamaica with him, and have decided to stay here until his permanent residence comes through. We are filling out the sponsorship forms (and for me being able to sponsor) and are nearly finished. We aren't using an immigration lawyer because we don't have enough money (I'm unemployed. He's employed, but certainly doesn't make enough for that. As well, we're already going to have to pay so much money to do this).

For those who have sponsored spouses to Canada from the Caribbean, especially from Jamaica, I have a few questions:

A) In the country specific instructions that I'm looking at (on the citizenship and immigration Canada website, the pdf name is 3909e), in the checklist at point 13, it says that my husband has to provide a set of 8 recent photos for each member of his family and himself.
I'm sorry, but do they really mean they want him to get each of his family members (mother, father, siblings, and daughter who lives with her mother) to have 8 photos of themselves each? (i certainly find that unnecessary and excessive)
Or do they mean his family, as in he and I?
I'm really confused about this.

B) Could we apply for a visitor's visa while his permanent residence is being sponsored? I heard we could, and we'd have to do it at the same time. However, does anyone know how we'd go about that, since I have to hand in the sponsorship stuff in Canada and he has to hand in the forms for the visa here in Jamaica? (I do think that they'll grant him a visitor's visa this time. Last time, they said they didn't think he'd come back. However, I didn't think they understood that I'm living here with him. As well, I have just completed writing the 12 paged invitation letter so they understand why he'll be coming back to Jamaica).

C) To anyone who has sponsored a spouse from Jamaica, so you have any tips or advice you could offer me? And what was your experience with this?

Thank you so much (in advance)

1. No the photos are only of him and any of his children included in the application. CIC uses the definition of family included the application and refers to other family members not included as relatives. Note the his daughter has to be included in the application as a dependent either as accompanying or not accompany, with proof of birth and a medical exam.
2. You should re-read the instructions. You send your sponsorship undertaking with his complete application to Mississauga, if the sponsorship is approved, then IRCC sends his application to Kingston. I am assuming that you are a Canadian citizen.
3. Unlikely that he will get a Visitor visa (TRV) as the sponsorship application demonstrates his intention to remain permanently in Canada. But he can always apply for one.

There is already a very active Kingston thread: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/kingstonjamaica-t29680.57030.html

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it.

So, even though his daughter doesn't depend on him and doesn't live with him, he still must declare her as a non accompanying dependant. Thank you for clarifying that, because, since she technically doesn't depend on him, we weren't going to put her as a dependent.
But great, we have to put all of that too.

Since she is non accompanying, would I then have to show proof of income? I was reading on the site that when I'm sponsoring a spouse that has a dependent, I need to make a certain amount (the amount is waived if it's just the spouse) . On the site, it wasn't clarified whether or not the dependent had to be accompanying or not.

Yes, I am a Canadian citizen.

I will check out the thread to see if it answers any more specific questions I may have. Thank you

Yes, he must declare his daughter. Failure to do so is misrepresentation and a possible 5 year ban.

The minimum income only applies if you are sponsoring dependent children who also have dependent children. It does not apply to you.

Okay.

Thank you so much for your response. I so appreciate it because I was starting to feel really discouraged.

If anyone wants to post their experiences here, I'd greatly appreciate it.

It's better to apply for a Vistor's visa before the application is in process chances are they might not give it to him after and since you're not currently in Canada and not working here they might not give it him either but since you're staying there while they're working on his papers i wouldn't worry too much about that, also don't forget that you have to send in proof that you plan to return to Canada after he gets his landing
