Hi I just wanna have some few questions. Because I just submitted our application for the sponsoring of my husband and we are both here in Canada. Does he need to apply for an open work permit? Right now, he's a contract worker and his work permit will expire next month. And his employer told him that he cannot renew him anymore because he's been working here for 6 yrs. what application form he can use for an open work permit..
Hope to hear you soon
Thanks

he can only apply for an open work permit if he applied through the inland stream. if he applied outland to enjoy a quicker processing time, he is not eligible for a work permit so he would need to apply to change his status to visitor and extend his stay until his application is approved.

If you applied inland, you can avail the new program that can provide your husband an open work permit.
But with his work permit expiring in a month, it's gonna be tough. since the open visa processing for inland takes about 3 to 4 months (i think, im not quite sure about this, you can double check on cic). But You can still try, but there is a big possibility that your husband needs to go back to his home country to avoid overstaying and you guys will just have to apply outland and wait for a few months depending on your chosen VO.
