Spousal Open Work permit extension

Hi, my husband is working under spousal open work permit and his work permit will expire with my study permit very soon. I will have to return my home country after completion of my study. However, my husband's employer will ready to provide a LMIA-exempted job offer to my husband. Will he be able to extend his work permit or change spousal open work permit status into closed work permit?

Since LMIA exemptions are clear and assume you meet the rules (eg. come from a country with FTA agreement) then he needs a closed work permit. He can’t extend an open work permit.

He can only work for that company. So if he is let go or wants to leave the job then he needs another LMIA and closed work permit. How is he LMIA exempt?
