Hi there, I wish to sponsor my parents from Australia and will put the application through in 2017 seeing the cap has already been reached for 2016. I currently meet all the requirements to be a sponsor but am worried that in the time it takes to process the application that I will be on Maternity Leave at some stage during that 2 - 3 years process and wont reach the financial cap during the maternity leave period. Will they be declined if they review my financial status in a couple of years and see I am or was on Maternity leave and don't reach the cap anymore? Below is what I seen in the instruction guide.

Do I have to maintain a minimum income during the processing of the application?

Your Minimum Necessary Income must meet or exceed the Federal Income Table for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship above on the date on which the sponsorship application is signed until the day your family members are permanent residents.

Income may be reassessed at any time during processing if new information indicates that you may no longer meet the minimum income requirements or if more than 12 months have passed between the dates on which we receive your application and when processing of the application begins.

Yes - you must continue to meet the minimum income requirements while the application is being processed. If your income drops below the minimum and CIC finds out, then you should expect the application will be refused. It's possible CIC may find out or it's possible they may not. Sometimes they request updated income information during processing and sometimes they don't. So difficult to say for certain what will happen in your case.

Thank you, I thought that would be the case. It's very annoying that you have to put your life on hold for 2-3 years while waiting for the process.

You can ask your husband to cosign

I don't have a husband unfortunately. I had planned to have a child by myself but it looks like that will have to be put on hold. I was just looking at the wait times and someone said it could be up to 5 years for approval! crazy amount of time to wait.
