My husband is Canadian, I am his wife from Cairo. Our file was received by CIC in Mississauga(outland application) on 25 March 2014. It is 17 July, 2014 today and we still haven't heard anything back from them on step 1; his assessment as a sponsor. Is that normal?? The website mentions that this step 1 takes 55 days, we have exceeded 3 months and our status is still "Application received on March 25,2014"

Can anyone advice please??? Is this delay in step 1 of sponsor's assessment normal??

Thanks.

This is normal.. But you can always call them up and ask them the status.

My husband in Canada did so, he called. They said it is still processing, and that they have nothing else to say.

Ya it takes a long time. Mine took over 2 months when it said the waiting time is a month.. Hopefully you get an answer soon :)

If you applied OUTLAND, this wait is NOT normal, and it's time your husband calls his Member of PArliament (MP) and asks them to inquire on your behalf. CIC must respond to their request within a certain number of days, and CIC will tell them more specific information. Since you are well beyond the processing time posted, they will be more willing to help.

If you are are seeing informaiton on the online system, that may be related to a previous application for a visa, not necessarily your PR application. Good luck!

Thank you all. I think my husband should contact an MP. We almost exceeded double the time... :( and I still have to wait for almost a year for the papers to process in the Canadian embassy in Cairo for step 2, after we resolve the unknown delay of step 1. This is so tough and hard really....

Funnyguy86, I think your processing was within range. If u applied and your file was received on 24 April 2014, a month after us, the system then mentioned 55 days for step 1 processing!! You've atleast had your file transferred. We are in an unknown just "processing" state and nobody wants to give us a clue for anything!

It's extremely sad and depressing!!

As RH Cohen says, your husband should contact your MP. It is wrong that you have been waiting so long.

The sponsor approval side is the most difficult when there's a delay, because not only are the CIC agents useless, but also you don't have a UCI # yet, so you cannot order GCMS notes or check the status of the application yourself. When I finally got my SA, I ordered GCMS, and they said they couldn't explain the reasoning behind my delay, only that "File was under processing at the time SPR inquired about delay"

My husband contacted his MP. We are waiting for feedback.
