I am a Canadian citizen. I have gotten a marriage certificate from the Vietnamese government. I am planning to return to Canada from May until August to work, and then I am coming back to Vietnam with my family and friends for the ceremony.
Do I need to have the ceremony to begin sponsoring my wife, or can I begin sponsoring her when I return to Canada next month?
I have read that it is faster to sponsor her from outside Canada. Obtaining a letter for employment is not a problem for me, to prove that I will return to Canada. Is it possible to begin sponsoring her even before I leave Vietnam?
Why didnt you just have the ceremony and get the marriage license all on the same trip?
You don't need the ceremony to sponsor, but you will likely get an interview if this happens, because the Singapore VOs are highly suspicious of Vietnam marriages that don't have the street procession, praying at the altar of grandparents, etc, the usual stuff you see at a traditional vietnamese wedding.
It's not worth saving a few thousand bucks to delay your application by 1-2 years because of the impending interview.
