Hello,

If I were to sponsor both my parents to come to Canada and I have a brother who is under age, is he eligible as part of the sponsorship?

If not, how do I sponsor my brother? Or do I sponsor my parents and let my parents sponsor my brother as a dependant? Does that also mean that my parents need to work in order to sponsor him?

Sorry if it's too many questions...

Thanks!

Yes, this is the only way to sponsor your brother.

Of course to submit a parents app you need 3 years of income in Canada, and then to be selected in the parents sponsorship lottery.

Thank you! This is good news to hear.

I have been working here for 5 years now. The only problem is that I don't meet the require income and my fiance and I will get married next year so I can't have her as a co-signer until then.

Also, my brother will be age 17 this year which makes him 18 next year. I heard that the age will be changing from 19 to 22, assuming it's true?

If I start the sponsor process in 2019 (which he will still be under the age of 19), will it affect the process assuming it takes very long and he passes age 19? Or once you apply before the age of 19, this is disregarded if the application length goes over his age?

Thanks again!

Yes - the dependent age is supposed to increase in the fall.

Your brother's age will be "locked in" at the time the application is submitted. So if he's 19 at the time the application is submitted (and the rules have changed to increase the dependent age), he will remain a dependent in the application until it's finalize provided he doesn't get married or enter into a common law relationship.
