I have a question about applying open work permit under sponsorship for my wife, really need some help, please!
I am a PR, we would apply for family sponsorship from outside Canada for my wife, but she is living in Canada with me and she is working here.
Her work permit will expire January 2017. Can she apply for an open work permit after we submit sponsorship application? Or she can only apply for open work permit after the application get approved? What I worry is that if she can apply for work permit under outside Canada application??
She will only qualify for an open work permit if you submit an inland application. No - she cannot apply for a work permit under an outside of Canada (outland) application.

Hi scylla,
Thanks for your help! So if she apply under inland application, does she apply work permit four months before her current work permit expire or only after she get approved from sponsorship application?
Thanks!!
Best thing to do is to apply outland while she is inside Canada. No travel restrictions. I could be wrong, but I'm sure she could still work on that current work permit until Jan 2017 while still on the outland application. In that case, if you have a straightforward relationship case, your wife should get PR before the work permit expires.

That's probably the best idea, but it depends on her VO and your situation. If you have a straightforward case with no red flags, That's certainly the way to go.

Thanks a lot Aquakitty, I think we will go with outland application, hopefully everyting will go well, and get PR before her work permit expire. Thanks!!
