I have a few questions about sponsoring minor kids.

I am Canadian raised in USA, but we are now moving back to Canada.

We have two kids 7 and 10.

I am told that sponsoring a minor is faster. But I am not clear on how many years they must be a PR before going to citizneship.

I was told 1 year and then I was told 3 years.

My questions are:

1. How many years must a minor child be be a PR before they can apply to be a citizen?

2. Is the age locked in from the time of filing for PR or for citizenship? (For instance, my 10 year old will not need to go through medical if her age is locked in at 10 unless she must start over once she applies for citizenship.)

3. Do they still need to be sponsored for ten years even after they are citizens?

are you a Canadian passport holder? if yes, you kids are eligible for citizenship too and they do not need PR.

as for kids who hold PR status:

To apply for citizenship for a child under 18, make sure the following conditions are met:

* the person applying is the child’s parent, adoptive parent or legal guardian
* the child is a permanent resident, but does not need to have lived in Canada for three years and
* one parent is already a Canadian citizen or is applying to become a citizen at the same time. This also applies to adoptive parents.

If you were born in Canada your children are most likely Canadian citizens by birth (even if they were born abroad). If you were born in the U.S.A., they are most likely not.
