Hi,
My nephew in Mexico recently become orphan and lost his brother, he is 15. I will become his legal guardian in March. I am a Canadian citizen and want to bring him to live with me in Toronto. I will like to ask, what is the best way to do it. Should I sponsor him? or should I adopt him oversees and then apply to citizenship.
The adoption process in Mexico could take up to 24 months or more. He is living with a family member right now but struggling. I will also like to ask if while the sponsorship or adoption legal work is done can I bring him to Canada on a student visa?
Thanks

If you want to try to bring him to Canada while the application is being processed, the options are either a TRV or a study permit (for a study permit you'll need to show a bank balance of at least $25,000 to cover living expenses and the $15,000 school fees).

Would warn you that the process to sponsor is also quite long. Would start the process as soon as possible given that he is already 15. There is a mention about a brother being deceased but it will be really important that both parents are deceased even if one parent has not been present in the child’s life.
