Hi Everyone,

I signed up in this forum to seek guidance regarding a sponsorship that I would like to initiate for a sick person who needs medical attention. He is a 23-year-old male from Syria. He currently lives in Syria. He has been suffering from Thalassemia and needs urgent medical attention. His situation is very critical, and his parents are trying every possible way to get him out of Syria to get the medical treatment he needs. Off course, he cannot pay for his own medical treatment. I can sponsor this young man, but I cannot pay for his medical treatment. However, I can take care of his housing, and living expenses. I am not sure how to initiate this sponsorship and I don't know what the requirement is and/or eligibility criteria. I would appreciate people's guidance on this matter. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Abul Jude

There is no such program to sponsor him nor any program where Canadian government (provincial or federal) pays for treatment. He needs to apply for a TRV showing that he has the funds to fund his own visit, travel history, ties to home country etc. He comes as a visitor. He would have to pay out of pocket for any treatment. You would have to contact doctors and hospitals to see if he could even have treatment given the waiting lists for those who have provincial health, and have been waiting to see specialists. Most likely money would be asked for up front to pay for expenses.

Why not choose a country (such as Israel) for medical treatment closer to home? As for the medical treatment itself, have you tried "Go fund ..."?

Here are the arrangements you will need to make and the evidence you will need to provide for the visa to be approved:

- Proof that arrangements have been made with a hospital in Canada for his treatment. This means providing a letter from the hospital / doctor outlining the medical treatment that will be received in Canada.
- Proof that arrangements have been made with the hospital that will be treating him to cover all costs related to his treatment and that these medical costs have ideally been prepaid.

It sounds like your first step is to find someone who will be willing to cover the costs of his health care in Canada. As a visitor, he will not be entitled to free health care coverage under the provincial system. There is no visa / sponsorship process that automatically covers these costs. These are arrangements you will have to make (along with finding a hospital willing to treat him).

You can read more about what you would need to arrange and provide here:
