Hi,

With the recent change in the PGP from 2019 I am thinking of sponsoring only my grandmother to Canada. In my family we are:-

1. myself
2. wife + 2 kids
3. Both Parents
4. Grandmother

My parents both live abroad and my grandmother is in Canada on visitor visa. Unfortunately my grandfather has passed away. I have the income as $ 70K for 2016 , $ 86K for 2017 and $ 100K for 2018 hopefully. I am thinking of apply for my grandmother only for PGP in 2019 and then applying for my parents (father and mother) in the following year. i.e. 2020. Can any senior member of the forum please let me know if it is possible for me to sponsor only my grandmother next year i.e. 2019 please? I will really appreciate your feedback on this.

The application for your grandmother is completely separate from your parents. So, yes, if you are invited, and eligible, you can sponsor just her in 2019

Thanks a lot zardoz. Also can you please clarify on another question. One of my friend has a plan to submit a sponsorship application and he has just sufficient income to support his parents right now. However he is planning for a baby. If he submits an application come January and he gets a baby while he is waiting for a decision can that be a reason of denial? i.e. will he require additional income later considering his new born child when the decision is going to be finalized?

He may be request to provide proof of his "current" income after he submitted his application and before the decision is finalized. At that point, his family size will include the new born baby. So he needs to be ready to support that additional family member at that point.

Yes. The MNI can be reassessed at any time up to the "Decision Made" point. Changing the family size may cause a rejection if the MNI is not met afterwards.
