Hi,
I became a PR in August 2014, my husband sponsored me through spouse visa. Now I want to sponsor my brother (sibling). I'm little confused with "Application to Sponsor" IMM1344E (Sponsor Eligibility Assessment Q.5)

Sponsor Eligibility Assessment: Question number 5 it states
If you answer Yes to Q.5 and you're sponsoring a spouse, common law or conjugal partner then you're not eligible to sponsor and you should not submit your application.

5. In the 5 years preceding this application, did you become Permanent Resident after being sponsored as a spouse.

In the form it states the above and when I check Sponsorship Guide IMM5196, it states other way:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...-children-other-relatives-sponsor.html#5196E2

Sponsor Eligibility Assessment
  • If you answer “Yes” to any question between 5 and 15
    • You are not eligible to be a sponsor. You should not submit an application.
    • If you are sponsoring a parent or grandparent, this does not apply to you.
I became PR in August 2014, which is still under 5 years. Shall I answer "Yes" and proceed with the application? Is there any timeline or number of years you have to stay in Canada before you can sponsor your siblings? Little confused to proceed further. I would appreciate any help or suggestions!!
Thanks,
Ruchi

Unfortunately there is no program to sponsor your sibling. The only relatives you can sponsor are your spouse, parents, and dependents (children).

As mentioned, you don't qualify to sponsor any sibling. To do this you would need to be completely alone in Canada (no spouse, kids, family, etc). You having a spouse disqualifies you.

Your brother will need to qualify to immigrate independently through an economic stream.
