Hello everyone,
I am from India & have received my PPR. My passport is under stamping process for Sept'21 intake. Now i need some guidance on how can I apply for my spouse.
- Should i apply now itself while I am in India or should I go to Canada and apply for her.
- Should we apply for visitor visa and later on convert it to SOWP when she comes to canada?
What would be better process?
- Looking at current situation, how much time can it take?
Need some genuine guidance.
Since you didn’t apply at the same time for your spouse. You can try for either a SOWP or visitor visa. No guarantees for either. Visitor visa is about 27 weeks and work permit is about 18 weeks. She also need written authorization to travel since you didn’t apply at the same time.

Thanks for the info. Which would be better? Visitor or SOWP?
Will it be quicker if applied while i am in canada?
Can you please help me understand what is Authorization to travel?

What is your program? If a masters or Phd, you have a better chance. Apply for open work permit first because officers know she is not coming to visit for a few months. Due to covid, she also needs written authorization to travel for essential purposes. If she had applied with you at the same time, it would not have been necessary. Rules are changing but right now she needs authorization as well as a visa. She can’t convert a visitor visa to a work permit. Same rules apply and she could enter as a visitor and be denied a work permit.

Thanks. My program is 2 years PGD. What would you suggest be good for us? I want to unit with her as soon as possible. Should I apply for her open work permit as soon as i reach canada? Or can i start the process while I am yet to travel?
