South African student in Canada - Study Permit

Can a South African citizen who is in Canada with a temporary resident visa apply for a study permit from within Canada if the permit is only valid for another 4 months?

If they apply from outside of Canada application, do they have to leave and re-enter upon approval? What is the main difference between the two options if the applicant already submitted biometrics?

You can extend within Canada no need to leave. The only time you were to leave was to do biometric if 10 years has elapsed but not anymore, new policy says we can give biometric within canada
