Sources of Funding for International Student in British Columbia

A friend of mine has been accepted into Simon Fraser University's high school teacher education program. Now we're trying to collect as much funding as possible so that she can get her visa and pay for her education here. I understand that she can apply for student loans through the US Federal Government, but short of that (and it's uncertain how much she'll get if any) we're at a loss. I'm not sure what scholarships and busaries are available to her through the Canadian Government or the university. I've been looking around and nothing has jumped out at me, so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you're going to find any scholarship / bursaries through the Canadian government (those are reserved for Canadian citizens and PRs). Simon Fraser should offer several - has your friend inquired with the university's bursar/registrar directly? Again, many/most may be geared towards Canadian citizens/PRs - but it's still worth a try.

An additional question: Does anyone have any advice or input to offer on student loans by private banks? It seems that is likely to be the main source of funding for my friend, and I'd like to know how much money she can get, the kinds of interest rates to expect and repayment schedules/policies, should she target American or Canadian banks, and so forth.

Is she American? If so, then she should target American banks.

A Canadian bank won't lend her money given she has no assets/employment here (i.e. nothing to secure the loan).
