We are considering emigrating to Canada under the skilled worker visa with a job offer. Our finances in the UK are not great and this would be a good opportunity to make a fresh start. Once we are in Canada we are considering filing for bankruptcy in the UK. Would this effect our visa or any future plans for applying for permanent residency/citizenship in Canada.
It would not affect your visa at all but you do need to show funds when immigrating to Canada and you need to present those funds when you arrive in Canada. I don't know how long the arm of the UK law is but if you file for bankrupcy in the UK while you have money in the bank in Canada (borrowed money most likely then), they might not like that very much.
