Greetings all,
My friend is a Chinese citizen. He is currently a graduate student in the U.S. now. Christmas break he plans to go to Calgary, then NY, then Toronto.
His v-1 Visitor visa says "No. of entries: 1". So I take it is a single entry visa? From the website:
"The single entry visitor visa allows you to enter Canada only ONCE from ANY country. The single entry visa may also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the U.S. Such entries must occur between the validity dates on the visa stamp in your passport."
So assuming this is a single entry visa (it is, right?), he's good to go with his Calgary --> NY --> Toronto plan? Thanks for any/all help

Yup, if he has a valid multiple entry to the US, his single entry visit visa to Canada can be used repeatedly to enter Canada if he'll only exit to the US and St Pierre and Miquelon within the validity of the visa.
Thank you for the quick response. Cheers

Not quite right. Once he enters Canada and is admitted for 6 months (or any other amount of time) he can only re-enter Canada on the single entry TRV from the US and St. Pierre et Miquelon during that 6 month period.
PMM
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure I'm 100% following you as I'm a huge newbie visa-wise. Is there anything my friend should do now? Or is he set? Thanks PMM/others

Yes, he is set.
He's good to go with his Calgary --> NY --> Toronto plan, within the 6 month allowed visit (if no other date written on his entry stamp)

Depends on how you want to come to Canada. Do you wan to come as a visitor, temporary worker, or immigrant? Click on the links and read on: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
