I'm planning to land in Calgary, Alberta and im currently work as accounting Manager with more than 12 years experience in accounting field wheather in Egoyt or in UAE and i have bechelor dergree in accounting from Egypt and i have passed 4 papers in ACCA , UK . Whehn i start searching for a job in the accounting field , shall i get a license to practise any work as an accountant?? becuase i heard that some position like doctors , engineers have to have canadian License and every provinces have different rules .
My application is still in process and I may not be the right person to advise. However, I am certain you need accreditation with CA, CMA or CGA to practice as an Accountant(regulated profession) in all Canadian provinces, except as a Financial Manager which is not a regulated profession(though some employers may require membership of either of those bodies for employment).
Here's my finding: Certified General Accountants(CGA) in all provinces(including Alberta) have a Mutual Recognition Agreement(MRA) with ACCA, UK, whereby ACCA members are given direct membership with CGA and vice versa.
All you need do is to complete your ACCA exams, and since you have over 36months accounting experience, u quickly complete the PER requirement and get ACCA membership. Then,u get a letter from ACCA confirming yr membership status; with that you register with CGA and do (canada) tax and Law.Upon completion you will be awarded CGA membership/licence. I feel this route is quicker. You may check www.cga.org/canada for further details; PLEASE ALSO AWAIT OUR LANDED SENIORS' INPUT
