Should I purchase of flight tickets and hotel for Visitor Visa application?

Hi,

Essentially, should I purchase return flight tickets and hotel stay for visitor visa applications?

Given that the wait time is 6 months (from India), purchasing tickets so far in advance seems ridiculous, but I can't have the visa be denied either. Visit by mid-next year is critical.

I have a history of recent travel - got a schengen visa in the last few years, and US multiple times, but over 10 years ago.
