I recently became a permanent resident but when I went to the midtown Toronto ServiceOntario to renew my health card (and report change of status) they said they could not do it even though I am now a permanent resident because my *current* health card was issues based on a temporary work permit (BOWP).
Before I spend an hour each way getting up to the one at Sheppard and Yonge which issued my previous OHIP cards are there any other ServiceOntario locations in Toronto that will handle the above issue? As far as I can tell there is no way to tell from the website which locations are a "real" ServiceOntario that will handle the OHIP needs of people who are, or were recently, temporary residents.
I gave it a shot as it was significantly closer for me since I moved recently. I can confirm that the Bay and College location will handle OHIP renewals for people who are on, or were recently on, work permits (I still wish they would make it clearer on the website which locations will do this as I have encountered several in the city that won't)
I arrived at 7:40 AM and was ~7th in line - definitely recommend arriving early as by the time it opened at 8 AM there were a *lot* of people behind me. I was served after about 5 minutes and was done by 8:12 AM. Probably the most efficient interaction I have had with ServiceOntario.
