How long does it normally take for ppr or bg check to complete after receiving pre arrival?

The background check is usually completed before the eligibility but only shows 'completed' when an officer re-verify all admissibility sections and infuses the outcome into GCMS.

PPL seeing 'in progress' these days are generally under security screening which may take a longer(unpredictable) period to reach a final report for IRCC to determine a final decision.

Normally when ppl received a pre-arrival letter means they are just waiting for the last manual steps performed by an officer; Or, waiting in queue to be automatically updated and CoPR generated.

Some are lucky enough to see all "completed" within a few days, especially background verification checks completed which are followed by CoPR and PPR.

Since this "final decision" is a manually operated function, some, like me and others in this thread, are experiencing unforeseeable delays.

I see ppl(same VO) submitted their application in Nov 2022, received pre-arrival 1 day after me but finished all the following steps at the beginning of April.

I also see more stuck here just like me.

Dec 14 - SA
Dec 22 - Medicals completed
Biometrics - completed (already given for visitor visa)
Eligibility - Not started
Background verification - not started
Since then, Crickets.

Anybody in the same situation?

Background check moved to progress. April 19th, 2023

So many background in progress update today, wonder what it means.

Very strange indeed. Either they fixed synchronization issue so for many people the status changed to a real one; or they broke something and it’s just a glitch; or they just dumped everyone to CSIS before the strike in the effort to minimize their backlog when they come back… But it all just speculation of course.

For someone on workvisa in usa and indian passport.. the bg check would be done in usa or india ?
