Sending passport to Ottawa not from Canada

Did somebody submit passport to Ottawa not from Canada ?

I am currently in US, and I got a passport request. It is written that "If you do not submit a return prepaid Xpresspost envelope or if you provide an envelope from any other courier, we will return your passport by regular mail."

This means that I will not have a chance to track my passport travelling back to US from Ottawa. This is crazy. If there is a solution of this problem ?

Plenty of people send their passports to Ottawa from outside Canada
As you are in the US, do you have a friend you can send it to to send to CIC and then cIc can return to your friend in the trackable envelope. Then your friend sends it back to you

Hi Grishan,

Iam in a simillar situation as yours - have applied from US and correspondence address in application is US.
Recieved passport request - but it had only return mailing option for applicants with canada mailing address.
Since i dont have one and my correspondence address being US - have sent the passports to Ottawa from US without return envelope.

Hope Ottawa would return the passports to our US mailing address or should i be worried that i didnt find canada mailing address of a friend to use that return mailing option - iam confused now

Pls share the information you have around this

I think the good way is to send through someone in Canada...
I do not know how does it really work if you send it directly from other country... May be someone has experience ?

Passports shouldn't be sent through overseas by post. Hence Ottawa office won't post your passport to USA address. They need some address in Canada.

Since I didn't send the tracking Canada post xpress envelope already - guess the thing I can do is send a friend's address in Canada for Ottawa office to mail through regular post, would check with them before doing this.

But one thing that made me believe that i might get the passport back at US address which has been there in OUR file is the below letter content - It says do this only if you have mailing address in Canada and it no where mentions clearly what we need to do if we don't have a mailing address in Canada, since from beginning of the application processing my address was in US , thought they would send the passports to US.

If you have a mailing address in Canada: To allow you to track your passports through the mail, we strongly recommend that you purchase two (2) PREPAID Canada Post Xpresspost envelopes (National), letter-sized (318 x 241 mm), at any Canada Post retail outlet.

- Complete the mailing label on one envelope showing your mailing address in the “Deliver To” field.
- Keep a tracking number sticker from each envelope.
- Fold and enclose the self-addressed envelope in the other envelope along with your passport(s) and a copy of this request letter.

We will not use registered mail or postage coupons. If you do not submit a return prepaid Xpresspost envelope or if you provide an envelope from any other courier, we will return your passport by regular mail.

Just received passport back from CPP - Ottawa to our US residential address through regular Canada post mail..
