Sending out Invitation letter

I'm sending out my invitation letter. Does anyone know if I also need to send a hand written letter along with a typed up copy?
One more thing, does my girlfriend need to show plane tickets when she goes to interview or can they be bought after her visa is approved.

Would it also better my chances if I mention My friend rather then girlfriend.

1) A typed letter is fine;
2) Plane tickets not necessary, but should mentioned how long she would be visiting Canada
3) Girlfriend or friend makes no difference
