Seeking Asylum (From Syria)

Hello, I cannot tell what is really happening but my wife is in danger in Syria and I would like to know if it's possible (and how EXACTLY) that she can seek Asylum in Canada, and how does the process work?

I have applied for sponsorship and permanent residence for her and I've been very patient but so far we have not received any letter or anything regarding her permanent residence and things are starting to look really bad for her (I can't explain what's happening because this could endanger her life).

There are two ways to apply for refugee protection in Canada:

You can make a claim when you arrive in Canada, at the port of entry. This could be at an airport, a seaport or a Canada-United States border crossing. At ports of entry, claims are received by officers of the Canada Border Services Agency.
You can also make a claim from within Canada at a Citizenship and Immigration Canada office.
Make sure you bring all the identification you may have with you, including your passport, driver’s licence and any other documents.
