I understand that to be compliant with study permit conditions and eligible for PGWP, any authorized leave from studies should be less than 150 days. Please consider the following scenario:
- A student starts their authorized leave of absence on Nov 28, 2023 and they return to their studies on May 8, 2024. The duration between these two dates is 163 days. The time period between Dec 15, 2023 to Jan 12, 2024 was considered a regularly scheduled break for this particular learning institution. Is this time period going to be counted towards the 150 days?

Yes time will be included. If taking leave as of November 28th were they able to finish the semester or did they not complete the fall semester? On their transcript did they pass the fall semester, did they withdraw, fail, etc.?

Hi there, thank you for your reply. So, the student was on a co-op work term in Fall 2023 and the official end date of the contract was Dec 15. However, due to some personal issues, the student left the company on Nov 27. The University didn’t drop the work term for them as most of it was completed and they were granted a Pass grade for the work term in Fall 2023 (as written on student’s transcript).

Right, so the student cannot enroll in courses at the moment and the earliest date would be May 08, 2024. From Nov 28, 2023 to May 08, 2024 is more than 150 days. Please note that the student requested the authorized leave in January 2024. The leave didn’t start on Nov 28. Should the leave have started on Nov 28?
