Overcome criminal convictions
Note: This is only a guide. A Canadian immigration officer will decide if you can enter Canada when you apply for a visa, or when you arrive at a port of entry.

Under Canada's immigration law, if you have committed or been convicted of a crime, you may not be allowed into Canada. In other words, you may be “criminally inadmissible.”

This includes both minor and serious crimes, such as:

theft,
assault,
manslaughter,
dangerous driving,
driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and
possession of or trafficking in drugs or controlled substances.

if you are convicted, then YES. It is considered criminal activity to drive under DUI which make you inadmissible to Canada for minimum 5 years.

Above link might help you.

I have a feeling that this is not "Driving while Impaired" but "Driving UnInsured"..
The OP was far from clear about this... If the latter, No, it won't make any difference.

Then of course you are OK. DUI means Driving Under the Influence (under alcohol, drugs etc), much more serious then Driving UnInsured :D

Thanks zingy ..im bit relief seeing your message.

Actually - does DUI ever mean "driving uninsured"? It seems that this would cause a lot of misunderstandings.

That's what I am wondering as well that if it was case of driving uninsured why were you charged with DUI. Doesn't make any sense right ?

If you were criminally charged for driving under influence. The would have given you charge sheet stating when to appear in court and probably would have taken you to station for finger printing. Since nothing like that happened than you were not criminally charged. Means you were only charged under the traffic act which bears no affect on your PR. So feel free its just like getting a speeding ticket. Hope that helps.

Even im confused.

what DUI means?

when i searched about it in google it is showing driving under the influence
and drive driving uninsuredand i found section 151 in driving uninsured but not in driving under the influence.

so im thinking it comes under driving uninsured and fingers-cross dis will not affect my application.
