So I am a US citizen visiting Canada. I'm staying with my boyfriend who supports both of us. (Our long-term goal is to eventually make me a Canadian citizen.)
Anyway, I've been in Canada for 4 months and I understand that I'm supposed to go back before the 6 month mark. We want to plan to cross the border to visit my family in New York (if plans change we will probably go to Niagara Falls) and we are wanting to come back to Canada that same day. We are hoping that this will let me come back to Canada and restart my 6 months all over.
Would this work? Or do I have to stay in the US for a longer time? Any suggestions?

I've been looking for information online to extend and I'm interested in it of course. I'm not sure how long to extend it though. Not sure how long is too long. i don't want to get declined obviously I'm supposed to be back November 30th but my boyfriend and I are pretty busy and would like to at least extend till January 30th. Decisions decisions!!
