Residence Question for Tax Filing

Hi Everyone,

I left Canada on 29 Jan 2020 but closed my health card on 14 Dec 2020. For tax filing, what date should I enter in the first page T1:

"If you became or ceased to be a resident of Canada for income tax purposes in 2020"

Closing my health card on 14 Dec 2020 is when I ended my ties with Canada.

Also , when I am prorating my income tax credits which date should I use.

Only CRA can determine this for certain.
That said, closing your health card falls under ceasing a "secondary" tie with Canada. Even more important is when you stopped having "significant" residential ties (a home, spouse and/or dependents in Canada).
According to the following site "If you did not have significant residential ties with Canada and you stayed in Canada for less than 183 days in the tax year, you may be considered a non-resident of Canada"

Would suggest contact CRA to determine your residential status. Also advise them that you have left Canada.
