Resettling with PR travel dox

I profanely landed in 2007, and after two years left to accompany my citizen spouse. (US and elsewhere). Looking at returning to Canada in the future, how hard would it be with just a travel document? I lost my PR card years ago. Anyone ever do this? Thinking about finding a job and being able to show thatbinam a PR. When inordinately landed, I received the PR card within a couple weeks, so it was not an issue. I would prefer to have a job prior to arriving this time.
