Research internship for less than 120 days

hi I am a phd student (research scholar) in IIT Delh, India.
I am joining polytechnique univeristy as research intern from June 2018.
Research interns are considered as worker in canada.
The duration of my stay is less than 120 days.
Do i need work permit?
or will i be exempted under the policy of short term 120 days work permit exemption for researchers?
Will visitor visa v-1 with multiple entry will be sufficient to come to canada

Please let me know.

You do not need a work permit if you meet the following conditions:

To work in Canada as a researcher for a short term
You do not need a work permit if you will come to Canada as a researcher

• at a public degree-granting institution or affiliated research institution
• who will work for 120 or fewer consecutive days
• who has not worked in Canada under this exemption in the last 12 months

My name is Nicolás Cabrera. I´m a colombian student of Los Andes University.


Recently the Cirrelt research center in Montreal offered me the opportunity to work as a research assistant from August 5 to December 5. They told me that I only need a visitor visa because i would only work for a period inferior to 120 days.

I need to know if a visitor visa that I already have is enough to travel to Canada and to work for the research center. The visitor visa that I have was solicitated for a tourist trip two years ago.

I already check all the links that are available online and I'm not certain if I have to apply for a new visitor visa or if the one I have is enough.



Can you help to clarify these doubts?

If your current visa is valid, you don't need a new one.

Under this condition which documents should i bring to Canada? I don't want to face any problems at the airport.

It is enough if i bring the invitation letter from the research center? Or would you advice another relevant documents?
