I had a consultation for my citizenship with a Toronto based immigration lawyer and he told me I can renew my PR card 1 year before it expires. I told him that the CIC website says we can only do so 9 months before expiry but he insisted that we can do it 1 yr before. Is the CIC website outdated? Is this some kind of inside knowledge or does this lawyer have no clue?

I would really like to get it done ASAP.

Seems pretty clear 9 months or less validity left. Guess nothing to stop anybody trying one year out but could worst case be returned.

Would switch lawyers if they don’t know this.

If you could renew it prior to one year , it would say that . Think your lawyer has no clue

Why are you bothering to see a lawyer about applying for citizenship? It's a pretty basic process.

Stupidity, not inside knowledge.

Yeah, drop this lawyer. Citizenship is a simple process and you shouldn't need a lawyer.
