Hi there, I have a simple question that I can't seem to find a clear answer to online.

I'm on a closed work permit with an employer here in Canada and am a resident for tax purposes. I was recently contacted with an opportunity to do some small remote work on the side for a U.S company.

Is this permissible under the rules of my work permit? It's not a company affiliated with Canada, but I can't find if doing remote work would break the authorization rules or be seen as running a business in Canada.

Thanks.

I believe I found my own answer: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...y-residents/foreign-workers/what-is-work.html

"Examples of activities for which a person would not normally be remunerated or which would not compete directly with Canadian citizens or permanent residents in the Canadian labour market and which would normally be part-time or incidental to the reason that the person is in Canada include, but are not limited to:

- long distance (by telephone or Internet) work done by a temporary resident whose employer is outside Canada and who is remunerated from outside Canada;"

Thanks!

As long as the company you are going to be working for has no Canadian customers / clients, you are good to go.
