Good afternoon,
I'd like to know if someone might be able to help me. I want to sponsor my sister 16 years old currently living with her mother in the Dominican Republic. Our dad passed away and her mother is willing to give me the legal custody.
I was wondering if there was any way I could sponsor her as a family member?
I know she can come as an international student. But I would like to sponsor her if I could.
I was researching the adoption process, but it is very long and tedious process in both countries Canada and Dominican Republic.
Thanks Scylla for your quick response! It will take me sometime until I am eligible to sponsor my mom unfortunately. Because I need to meet the income requirement for three consecutive years to be eligible, and by the time I am able to sponsor her, my sister will be 19 or 20 years old.
Could my mom still include her as dependent?
You also have to remmeber by the time you are eligible to sponsor, there is no guarantee you can do it as the parents sponsorship is now under a lottery system and not first come first serve.
Since your sis is still young, she should try to learn English and take up some work skills needed in Canada in order to immigrate here on her own, as she is still young, shes got lots of time to do so
