So yesterday I found out about some very interesting information. I decided to send an e-mail to HRSDC inquiring about the NOC code for the occupation and duties for my position. Even though I have already submitted my CEC application I just wanted to find out and maybe even have it as support in the future if need be.
So I got a prompt response.
Here’s the thing..
My title is financial analyst but my job duties match with financial accountant and auditor. So when my HR gave me the employment letter my title was Financial Analyst on the letter but the NOC code was for Financial accountant. I thought it made total sense as the duties are a much better match to financial accountant. I am not sure how the VO will assess this situation.
So on that response from HRSDC..
They also gave me the NOC code for Financial accountant and here’s the kicker
They said that this is a “regulated position”
I am little concerned now because I don’t have an accounting designation and when I was hired only enrollment was required plus my title is Financial Analyst which is a non-regulated occupation

NOC 1111 - to use the title CA/CGA/CMA requires certification. If you are not claiming one of those designations, you are OK. Also, if you are working as a public accountant, you require a license. If you are private (internal) accountant, you do not.
So it depends on who you work for and your job duties and whether they could be interpreted as working as a public or private accountant.

The other thing for this NOC is whether or not you are enrolled in the program to obtain this designation (CPA now). If you are (and you say enrollment was required so i am guessing you are enrolled), then you will have absolutely no problem with this NOC. If not, you may get a few more questions for using it.
