You should wait until you have an approved work permit before you drop the claim.
However you may face challenges getting an approved work permit. As a refugee claimant, you will likely have difficulty satisfying the officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your employment (demonstrating you will leave Canada is a requirement for obtaining a work permit).

I see. So, it's better to just go ahead with the claim to the end? The immigration officer told me it might take a year for the refugee board to review my case. I'm thinking of going to school here in Canada. Would I have to pay as international student if I'm a refugee claimant?

Yes, refugee claimant can get work permit (if deemed necessary based on financial needs) and without LMO and no fee required. However, there will be a note on it says "This document does NOT confer status." Which mean you are allowed to work but your status will depend on your refugee claim.
