Hi,
During my PhD, I worked as RA/TA (in US). My question is about the letter:
1- Can I get the letter from my former adviser on university letterhead? or do I need to get it from HR? The former is easy but later might be difficult.
2- Can I get one letter cover all my positions (RA/TA)? or need two letters. I can also ask him to just write one letter that put all of my works there as RA or TA, is it better?
3- I don't have my pay stabs (at least not most of them) I can ask my adviser to mention my salary in the letter, is it enough?
1 - Yes you can.
2 - As long as it mentions all positions held and all duties and responsibilities you can get a single letter.
3 - Yes you can, whether it is enough will depend on the officer assessing your application.
Finally, work during full-time studies OUTSIDE of Canada does count.

rxyz let's talk more cos I'm in exactly the same boat. I am currently drafting a letter for my RA experience. If it'd be useful for you, i can post the general structure here once I'm done with it.
