Reentry into Canada

Hi,

I recently received my study permit which last until July.
I was wondering if I can return to my home country for Christmas and then reenter Canada. Also can I cross the American border?

Yes you can reenter canada as long as your permit is active .

And NO you cannot enter US border without valid US visa !

But can I do it by obtaining a visitor visa (to the US) or something of the like?

Yes, why not . If you obtain a valid visiting visa to the US you can enter.
