So, I just landed the other day and the guy said that it might take up to 3 months for me to get my PR card, and then I go get a SIN after that. I know it will likely come sooner than three months but my question is, can I work now? I am landed, but do I need a SIN?
You can apply for your sin number now just take your passport and the record of landing and maybe another piece of ID and you will be able to get It takes about 2 weeks......
My sister and law my cousin and a friend did this and they sent the sin in less than 2 weeks...
good luck and welcome

Hi , hopefully in 45 days you should receive ur PR card. You can start working once you get your SIN number, and later within 10 days, you will receive the SIN CARD.
All the best..
Cheers..

Yep. If you applied outland (which you did), all you need is your original COPR and the visa counterfoil in your passport to obtain your SIN. You should be able to get the SIN the same day you apply, but will have to wait 10 days or so for the card to come in the mail. All you need is the SIN to work.

So no, you shouldn't have to wait for your PR card to come in the mail, but yes you do need your SIN to work.

yes u need ur SIN otherwise u cannot start working...we applied for the SIN shortly after we landed and we got it in 3 weeks, long before the PR card...also, apply for the Health care card: for that also u should not need ur PR card (the landing paper and ur passport should be enough); the health care card will take around 2-3 months so apply as soon as possible
I'm glad I asked because the little paper they gave me when I landed said that I needed my PR card to do all of this! It's nice to know I don't. I'm just a little confused, what is my COPR? I thought that was the form I turned in at immigration when I landed?
It's your Confirmation of Permanent Residence. When you landed, you would have had to confirm that all your information on it was accurate and then sign it infront of the IO. They often staple it into your passport afterwards.
Ahhh, okay, I got that. Sweet. I'll go in tomorrow or Friday to get a SIN and I'll start the process to get health insurance. Thanks guys!!
