My spouse's OWP just came in the mail today and we were shocked to find that the work permit is only valid for 6 months! As far as I know, the inland sponsorship process can take an average of 2-3 years to complete. We expected the OWP to be valid for at least 2 years. I've read numerous blog posts of couples that received their OWP before us and all of their work permits lasts at least 2 years. I'm not even sure if I am able to apply for extension. What can we do?
Thanks for your response canuck_in_uk! Well that definitely solves the mystery of why the OWP is valid for only 6 months... her passport is expiring on the very same day.
My wife is in the process of renewing her passport. Is there a way for her to reapply or extend the work permit after receiving a new passport?
We waited for around 5 months even though the CIC website said it would only take 4 months! If yours hasn't come yet, I guess you'd just have to be patient.
I read the other thread you made and you seem to be worried that your application has not been received or even acknowledged by CIC. I definitely understand that feeling. My OWP came a month past the deadline (a bit over 5 months) and my spouse and I were quite anxious during the wait. I'm not sure if this is the AOR you are looking for but I received confirmation that my application has been received 4 months after I sent the package. I am sure you just need to be patient and the good news will arrive eventually.
