Hi there:

I have a question about the TRV from my friend, who is from China.

He came to Canada as a visitor and on his passport, the TRV is up-to-10 years and the category shows: V-1, visitor.

After entering, he applied for study permit when he finished a 3-month language course as he wanted to continue his study in Canada.

Right now his inland study permit application has got approved, he wants me to ask: does he have to re-apply for a new TRV even he already has a 10 years multiple entries visa?

He was heard from some people that he does not need to re-apply. But I told him that he needs to re-apply because the categories on the TRV are different.

Can anyone help me answer this question? I appreciate it.

Hi

No, he doesn't need to apply for a new TRV. His current TRV is still valid; it doesn't matter what category it is.
