I got a message from CIC to get RCMP criminal record check done using fingerprints. I just have a small confusion. How does the RCMP clearance certificate reach CIC office. Do I have to send it to CIC office or will RCMP send it to them directly? Someone with similar experience, please explain and clarify.

It depends on the agency, in the one they took my fingerprints they didn't had that service... therefore:
1. You go to an authorized agency
2. RCMP gets the digital fingerprints directly from the fingerprinting agency (only digital)
3. RCMP mails the results back to you
4. Once you get the results you send them to CIC
Therefore I suggest trying different agencies until you find one that does the whole service, or if you don't mind just do the whole procedure yourself.
I did my RCMP finger print at http://www.commissionaires.ca/
they ask you where you want to send Report of RCMP . you can give address mentioned on CPP-O email or you can give your own address & once you recieve the results you can send it to CPP-O address .
Thanks a lot to everyone for the prompt reply. Going to L-1 fingerprinting (closer to my house). Let's see what process they follw. Will surely post the details for future reference.

Yup, got the fingerprints done today. They will send the fingerprints to RCMP along with the necessary details (viz: CIC address, applicant details). RCMP will then communicate the results to CIC. Our job ends after getting the fingerprints done.
How long did it take to send report to you... I did mine at commissionaire's yesterday.. Just wondering how many days it will take to send reports to me...
To my knowledge, (as discussed with L-1 fingerprints), RCMP will not send any reports to us. Any communication will be shared with CIC directly. The fingerprint company send the details to RCMP immediately and even a mail to CIC that we have got the fingerprints done.

I got it at my work...you can input any address because the guy who did my fingerprints asked me to enter the return address....a friend of mine got her RCMP at her house.

No, when CIC/CHC checks CPIC and there is a person with the same name and similar age with a charge/conviction in Canada, then they request fingerprints to see if you are that person.
