My sister is applying. She is married but her spouse won't be accompanying to Canada. It will be only her who is applying for PR. She is declaring her spouse details, of course. There is an option in application where she can check that her dependent is not accompanying to Canada. Is that the only thing she needs to check to indicate that only she is applying for PR?

I believe you are required to explain why the family member is not accompanying.
Also, if the spouse is not accompanying, it is not possible to claim any adaptability points based on the spouse's IELTS, education or former work or family in Canada.
Really? But why? Her spouse is not accompanying her. Also, is it documented anywhere? I thought you only need to show funds only for the applicant arriving in Canada.

Yes, there is a section in the application. The reason for him not accompanying my sister is that he is currently employed and would not want to move to Canada for few more years. Do we need to write full explanation or just a simple line?

Even if the husband is not accompanying her she will still need to provide POF to cover both of them, he will still have to take and pass the medical, and he will still have to provide PCCs and pass the background / security check.

Well if that's the case, isn't it better to then say the spouse is accompanying since she will have to get everything else done (POF, medical, PCC). He might as well join her to get the PR, than later. Right?

Exactly. This makes the process better for the family. Pay all the fees, fill all the forms, undertake all the steps. After the PR visa is issued, he will have to land in Canada to validate it and then return to home country till he is ready to move permanently to Canada. Wish them the best
