Hey there!

New to the forum, and I have a few questions I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me answer.

My partner and I are about to submit our sponsorship application, and we're at that 'double check... triple check... and one more final check' stage. I figure the best way to get the questions across is to list the IMM form and the section/question I need a little advise/help on. So here goes:

- IMM 5589 (Document Checklist),
Section 4. Police Certificates and Clearances.

Q: For those of you who have lived in Canada for the previous 6+ months prior to submitting your application, did you tick the box next to 'The country where you (or they) currently live, if you have lived there for six months or more, and' or did you write 'N/A' next to the box, as you aren't required to submit a Canadian police certificate as the IRCC will make a request for one on your behalf?

- IMM 0008 (Generic Application Form for Canada),
Section 1, Question 1/Question 2.

Q: My partner and I are applying for the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada Class, as I would like to apply for an Open Work Permit at the same time. For those who are in the same boat, did you select 'Family' for Q1 and then 'Common-law Partner' for Q2?

Again, any help is greatly appreciated! :)

I assume you and your partner are common-law and the Principal Applicant has resided in Canada in the last 6 months.

- IMM 5589 (Document Checklist),
Section 4. Police Certificates and Clearances.

In the Checklist.........Police Certificate....section......check these boxes;
  1. The country where you (or they) currently live, if you have lived there for six months or more; and
  2. If you (or a family member 18 or older) have lived in Canada for the last six months, or Canada is the country where you (or they) have lived for most of your (or their) life since the age of 18, police certificates for Canada are not required at this time. IRCC will make a request for (a) Canadian police certificate(s) on your behalf. Check here if this applies to you.
