Hi folks! I recently emailed support.riv.ca asking how to drive my car from Seattle to Vancouver as a work permit holder. I received their reply as below.

===reply starts===
Visitors, for a period not exceeding 12 months; temporary residents such as students studying at an institution of learning, for the duration of their studies in Canada; or individuals with a valid work permit/authorization for employment for a period not exceeding 36 months are exempt from complying with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards at the point of entry into Canada.
You will receive a Vehicle Import Form - Form 1 from CBSA upon entry into Canada, providing you have the documentation confirming you are here under temporary status your Form 1 will confirm you are exempt under section 16F. You will not require a Federal Inspection.
Please contact your Provincial Licensing Office for more information on licensing and plating inquiries:

Does it mean that I do not have to do any modification on my car since I'm under a work permit (<36 months)? And I do not have to fill out the import form until arriving at the point of entry into Canada? If it's true, I only need to fill out an export form based on the regulation of U.S. and then work on the plating. It sounds much easier than I have heard from my friends. So I want to double check if my interpretation is correct. Thanks anyone in advance who can help me with this!
