I became a landed PR on June 5th, 2016 and stayed in Canada for week till June 11th. I moved to Toronto permanently on January 18th, 2017. I did not make any income in Canada last year obviously. Do I still need to file taxes? Is it required for me to do so? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I did some googling. It's not mandatory to file taxes in Canada for him. Also , he is not going to get any benefits if he was not Canadian resident for tax purposes for entire year.

Canada requires filing taxes of world wide income. I landed in May, do not have any Canadian income, but do have a US pension. I read the rules on CRA website, then went to Liberty tax office and paid 140.00 for them to file my tax with Canada. I did my own US tax return.
I am not an expert, just stating things as I understand it. A tax office will be able to answer your questions over the phone. That way you can be sure of the rule.
you will need to file it any way , as PR you have to file taxes of world wide income as Mr. Snowisland said
but your status can be considered a non-resident status , and you will not pay any thing for the period before Jan 2017
this link is for you:

again as Mr. Snowisland said , you have to contact a taxes office, I am in the same case exactly , If I get any new information I will inform you , please If you got any I hope you would inform me as well
best regards.
No income no need to file taxes. However there may be some benefits in filing a zero return. E.g. in some provinces they give you some GST back if you have no income. The resident thing and foreign income may be an issue.
