I am working on filling sponsorship application form to sponsor my wife. As per document checklist no. 17 under supporting documents it says to provide
An original option C print out of your and your cosigner's last notice of assessment for the most recent taxation year.
what do i do for this ? I haven't worked in canada yet. i was in usa and worked in usa until december 2011 and filed U.S tax return. any idea? do i just provide a letter of explanation mentioning i havent worked in canada. any idea? Thank your in advance for your suggestions
I'm in a similar situation. Don't let the fact that you cannot provide the requested "Option C" deter or worry you. It's absolutely fine. I've been a non-resident for tax purposes since 2001. Haven't filed returns in Canada since 1998. I have the orignal "Option C" for 1998, 1997, and 1995. I'm not sending it, though. It specifically requests "the most recent tax year". So what I've done is write a lengthy explanation and include a notarized certified translation of my Chinese tax assessment from 2010 (the most recent one I have - 2011 hasn't been released yet, and I'm not waiting for it!). You should do something similar to what I've done.
The Option C is simply a means for CIC to determine if you've been bankrupt....or in receipt of government assistance (welfare). As long as you provide a "provable" reason along with some form of tax assessment for the country(ies) where you've worked, you're golden.
so do i just provide my USA tax return? along with explanation that my most recent tax year filed was in USA and havent worked in canada yet? any other ideas. Thanks in advance
